That could work. Though maybe allowing missing one turn up to turn 10, then allow two turns past that mark.
Or, I'm not sure if this this'll be easy to implement but, instead of the game auto-kicking: give the host kicking power for someone who missed a turn in the first 10, and leave it to them. That would allow the nuance for a case-by-case basis.

Ultimately, whichever version of this suggestion gets implemented will definitely be an improvement. I'm not picky.


Yeah, host having kicking might even be better. Players could then message host their particular (real life) circumstances, and host could respond accordingly. Then host could still keep the game moving by kicking players who start, but never return.

Problem: Currently if you're running a scenario someone can join, select an important role, then leave early in the game. And no new players can come and take up the mantle of that role. This is frustrating especially after creators spend hours balancing their scenarios only to have a huge piece (or pieces) missing by turn 2 or 3. And that issue is even more frustrating for those who play Casual.

Solution: If there was a way to allow new players to join and assume the scenario role of the lost player that would make it a lot easier to keep a game together.

Problem 2: In Quick Games, if you miss a few turns you can be kicked for inactivity. But in Casual Games, there is no hope for you if you have to miss a turn. You're immediately and automatically kicked. Casual Games are supposed to tailor to those who's real lives can get in the way, and I've had games I was playing for over a month long that I got booted from because of a last-minute issue keeping me from logging in for a day. Which you can imagine is infuriating.

Solution 2: Adding a setting that determines how many turns someone can miss in a Casual Game, so hosts can make that decision themselves.


The second suggestion might be easy to implement. If i see Dave i'll mention it to him, but can i make a suggestion on the suggestion... as someone who has the same issue, i tend to join 48 hour games, and i still occasionally get kicked if i have to be away for 3 or 4 days. As you may know already, it used to be like the quick games, allowing 3 turns before you got kicked... but in 48 hour games, that means about a week wait to get to turn 4 if there's a player or two who join and never play again.) So rather than have an option, it might even be easier for Dave to just implement the 1 turn kick for the first 10 turns. After 10 turns, everyone in the game is invested and the non-committed players have already been removed, so if something does call a player away for a few days, they could miss a turn or two before being kicked. Would that also work? i only suggest it because Dave has zero time these days, but it might only take a couple minutes of his time to make this type of change.

You mentioned you had a stream of consciousness... not sure if you intended that to connect to your original opening line, but to me, it's strongly connected. If 'consciousness' is fundamental, then the nature of reality is a subset of consciousness. Therefor, it is logical and consistent, to contemplate the nature of reality, as we are blessed with this ability. This is what you initially said that caught my interest: that we ought to be contemplating the nature of reality at all times.

So if you are sincere, and not trolling, then please accept my error was not intentional, but the product of an evolving consciousness with a lot more evolution to go. ♥

However, even if 'consciousness' is not fundamental, it still seems a fairly enticing and reasonable action, to contemplate the nature of reality.

The second part, about established frameworks being questioned, and likely being wrong... respect for that. It is not easy to swim against the current - far easier to turn off the critical thinking and stop asking questions.

You used the word 'proven' which is problematic in science. Proofs can be used in math and legal fields, but science is evidence based. (i.e. nothing can be "proven" in science.)


1. Nothing in science is 'proven' until all possible observations have been made.
2. Not all possible observations have been made.
3. Therefore, general accepted principle in science is nothing can be proven.
4. You claim "that's contrary to what science has thus far proven".

3 and 4 are incompatible.

Have you ever contemplated the definition of a troll?

I'll reconsider if you can show any evidence to the contrary, but after a brief search, i can confirm every attempt at finding a length less than a planck length has failed... if you know something scientists don't, let it be published!

Not sure if this is troll bait... but i liked your opening, and agree with it, so will respond on philosophical grounds. However i only got to the first bullet point before realizing you either were trolling or haven't done much contemplation, so i'll just address your first bullet before reading further:

You claim:

Of course this has been known to be false for over a century now... both for planck length and planck time. You mentioned time. Planck time constant was determined around 1900 according to most credible sources. Since time can be quantized, it is consistent with the 'simulation hypothesis' (i.e. that we are living in a video game) and these quantized units represent the limits of the processor running our particular game (in much the same way video games have quantized pixels for length, and frame rates for time.)

What's really amazing about this, is that because time can't be divided indefinitely, the system is REAL. (An infinite system can't be real, since infinity doesn't exist in reality.) So because the system is finite, it can be defined, and is therefor real... chew on that for a moment of existential contemplation, as once you do a bit more research to fact check, you'll likely have a major shift in your world view.

Speaking as a player, it's simple... play according to how the game was meant to be played. One of the great things about most of the AW community is that people get this. No one has fun when players use an exploit to win... it just wastes time. Even the player abusing the exploit eventually gets banned from other's games, and then wonders why no one lets them join.

In this case:

For a R10 to not understand why it's wrong to use an exploit is inexcusable in my opinion. A R10 has been around enough to have it happen to them, and knows through experience that it ruins everyone's fun. If it was a R5, i might give them the benefit of the doubt, and if they apologize or agree to stop, i would probably give them another chance.

As DireWarlord already said, if you're new, and you're not sure, there's no harm in asking. This would solve every problem, every time. But if you do make the mistake, own up to it, and don't blame another player. The excuse 'another player did it to me' is beyond lame ... i guarantee that for every low conduct player who abuses, there were 20 (probably more) that didn't, so you're intentionally copying the actions of low conduct players, and ignoring the honourable players that are leading by example.

As for leaving the game, it's a tough one ... in general, stay if you can.

In this case:

The player asked permission and got a response from his allies it was okay to leave... this shows respect and honour in my view, so in this case, it's perfectly acceptable.

Hi Konstantin_Bodin. Just visited the translation forum, and as far as i can see, it's been over 2 years since there has been any activity. The original criteria for pc rewarded in recognition of translation was begun by Ivan and Amok (prior to Dave taking ownership.) As a result, Dave will first have to confirm that the rewards haven't changed, and second, whether a mod is able to give these.

Regrets if there is any further delay, but the issue hasn't come up before until you brought it up. Perhaps message me privately if Dave doesn't respond in the next 2 days, and we can ensure you are correctly rewarded. ♥

Just to be clear - the most recent pic that most people might find offensive is nearly 6 yrs old. At that time, the use of swastikas in a war game (especially one that had heavy usage of WWII maps) was not considered offensive, provided it was game related, and not intentionally used to offend or troll. This thread was created to display AW art, so it's a bit of a grey area... but the 'art' in question is on topic, and more importantly, it wasn't reported. At that time, the community may have had a higher tolerance, and while it is clear the "artist" was being provocative, he was aware that his contribution was avant garde (he compares his 'art' with the 'dicks' images) so it would be considered sufficiently respectful and humourous for the time.

Hopefully that clarifies the issue so you can end the discussion and get the thread back on track by creating some art of your own ♥

The Units page was only ever meant to show the units for the World Map, and this it does correctly. By "new default units" I assume you are referring to World Map 2.0, but if we're going to show those we would need a totally separate Units page for World Map 2.0. We can't mix units from different maps together.

Anyway this is not a bug since it is currently working as designed, so I'll close it. But just so you know I will be building a new Units page where you can select the map you want to view units from. (and by that I mean ANY map, not just World Map or World Map 2.0). This has been on my list for a while.

It's probably just a caching issue. I'd recommend clearing your browser cache to see if that solves it. (I know this has worked in some other cases...)

Also generally I'd recommend using Chrome in the map editor... it is the most reliable.

Will leave this open for now, when I have a chance I'll try to reproduce it with that specific map...
