I was invited here by hdrakon and I vaguely recall that game. Also I think most people didn't like you too much at the time, for some reason. You were respected a fair bit more after that, and the stuff after that was half jealousy half trolling. Though I think you were trolled pretty effectively. But I'm an adult now and don't get off on stuff like that.

In general, all 2-hours long world games are bound to be interesting and memorable, particularly between people who know each other well. As for me, I don't think I played particularly well in that specific game and recall running out of time a fair bit.

I always fancied myself to be the Bent Larsen or Mikhail Tal of the game, and tried bizarre country choices and strategy combinations (NC Latvia EU+ anyone?). Even in league games. Long since quit the game, but good times.

Star Trek

Chrome is killing off their support for NPAPI plugins.

Of course, Chrome still has PPAPI, their replacement, but I don't see Silverlight being ported to it.

There are two reasons for this: because (a) Silverlight has been dormant as a platform for a long time and (b) Microsoft hates Google's guts (not to mention they don't offer NPAPI in their own browser and use ActiveX instead).

I moderate a somewhat large chess site that I (biased opinion follows) hold to be the greatest in the world. Its name is Lichess. It makes it very easy to play with anyone without needing browser plugins or any form of registration. Enjoy!

Nice. Also, don't make everything using HTML tables, if you want a tabular interface use the CSS table display. And stay up to date with the standard. <article> for forum posts, <nav> for the navigation bar, et cetera. All this is so you have better SEO (and better accessibility but blind people can't play this anyway). Oh, and I will be auditing your frontend "code" (well, just the html and css).

Can u download a map so the map an load faster ?
Like save it to your hard Drive.
Because everytime i join a game its slow when opening a map.

You know it's downloaded, right? That's how you can see it at all.

For me, it was Strategies and Upgrades. High-ranked players have all of them, while we only have some. In the Main lobby, you don't learn anything by playing countless shitfest games like UN, but when you do try and play a fair game, better strategical knowledge and upgrades destroy you. Thankfully, I've learned a few strategies very well, and have a good number of upgrades now (even though I find Upgrades to be P2W).

Exactly this. The power curve in AtWar has increased enormously. I still wouldn't call the game pay-to-win, but the power curve (the formal name of this in game design) is higher now than it has ever stood. It is no longer about skill when a rank 4 faces off against a rank 8 or 9, even if they are the AW equivalent of a grandmaster at chess.

The power differential between longtime players with lots of upgrades and newbies has to be decreased somehow without making the purchase of upgrades and/or the addictive element of the game fade away.

I think there is no harm in accepting them whatsoever and it may just draw some interest to the game. Personally though I don't think it will go anywhere and will lead most investors into a cruel Ponzi scheme-like thing.

I can't see to get the game running (though the plugin does successfully install and is recognised by the browser). I'll contact the developers directly for help.

Until then, I suggest you link to this page instead of the Launchpad repo, Ivan, as it contains instructions on how to get it working.

Ah, looks like KDE (!) and some other WMs/DEs have a problem with this crafty plugin. Luckily, a commit has recently been made and it will be added to the *buntu package sooon

It requires AW to be launched in a separate window but I'm not even mad bro.

I highly suggest this is put up on the news post by Ivan. KDE and several other popular Desktop Environments suffer from this issue as it stands, so it would be nice to point them in the right direction.

Edit 3:
This is very minor, but AltGr keys (I use a custom keyboard layout that lets me insert cool characters easily) do not seem to be working. I wonder if this is an AW issue?

Also, this is definitely not an AW issue but a Pipelight issue... buttons look very blurry. Still legible, but it could be better.

Oh, it looks just fine when you go fullscreen. I'm guessing it is because it's not embedded in the page. All will be fine eventually. This is the best thing to touch my browser for a while.

Android is in fact a Linux-based operating system. The Android uses the Linux kernel -- the core. The Linux kernel does little more than handle Input/Output, file system and drivers. It does this really well, of course. But it is not a complete system, just a core of a system. BSD, OS X and Windows are complete systems.

Other than that though, the software stack in an Android device is completely different. So no, you won't be seeing AW on Android anytime soon.

You can, in fact, play multiplayer, using a pirated version of the game. Just create a shared VPN or use a shared VPN service such as LogMeIn Hamachi.

Seems pretty good with only one reservation, I think he goes a bit too far in dehumanising the Nazis whilst portraying the Soviet leadership as benevolent heroes. That's what I got from the video anyway.
