Not a fan of scavenger but Expansionist looks interesting, its buffs are minor enough that the only nerf it may need is the opportunity cost of not being able to pick another strategy.

The only time i finding myself using it is in large games where my home country is far from the front lines to spam inf and militia in my capital and home country.

Thank you for the cheers clovis,

EndsOfInvention did the legwork for figuring out the 8/7 multiplier. I'll admit to not looking to closely at it and accepting it as is. I pm'd him and hopefully he will come to this thread and explain his process.

And yes PD militia are better than IF. The +HP increase is less valuable the smaller the original stat was. PD militia have 6 def in cities but IF militia have roughly 5.2

Thanks to the work done by others on this forum, we know that +1HP increases all stats by 8/7 and +2HP by (8/7)^2. But what does that actually look like?

Below is the stat array for units with no strategy; the bottom line is their cost effectiveness

Here is the array for Ironfist:

So with +2HP stats of 3,4 go up by about 1, 6,7 go up about 2 and 8 goes up 2.5. Halve these numbers for Great Combinator:

What I found really interesting is when you compare these to Perfect Defensive and Relentless attack. You only need GC's +1HP to have better attacking tanks than RA and almost as good infantry as PD. You can see that IF stats are better across the board. Even with PD's +2 inf def in cities, IF comes out ahead. PD wins with its cost effectiveness though.

All this analysis doesn't take into account IF's range nerf, nor its increases to units that PD doesn't buff. While I believe PD edges out as the superior strategy, the case for IF is a lot better than I thought before this analysis and a lot better than many people believe.

Maybe instead of a strategy it could be added as an option to your cities. To make it balanced maybe only a certain number of time per turn/game?

I cant say I've ever used helicopters normally, but Ive been trying to mix up what strategies i use and i really like them with DS. It seems like DS is best in Asian against the infantry cities and real nice for conquering India early as Pakistan.

Sure is exciting times here, can't wait for the official v1.0 launch. By the way, why did you decide to make Combinator, Lucky Bastard, and Ironfist, regular, non-unlockable strategies?

I've noticed Anti-Aircraft units are standard instead of an upgrade, is the sp used to purchase them going to be refunded like it was when the Lucky [Unit] upgrades were removed?

Since standard unit ideas and ideas for new strategies are sequestered into their own specific threads, I figured why not the same for people who want to suggest new upgrades?

I was thinking of Faster Militia and Faster Tanks to go with the Faster Marines, Infantry, Subs, Destroyers options. Also to open up the Expendable [ X ] upgrades to more units, at a much higher sp cost than the cheaper units of course.

Finally a unique upgrade that I think would interesting is Industrious General: Unit costs are reduced by 10 for troops produced in the city the general is in. Weekly maintenance cost would stay the same to keep it unique from General: Cost.

What do you'll think? and do you have any upgrades of your own you'd like to see?

Lucky Bastard now only costs 15,000sp and was changed to give +4 to ARB and +20 in cost.

Also, fresh from Amok here's the current distribution of strategies:

Tank General 1482
Perfect Defence 891
Naval Commander 350
Imperialist 228
Master Of Stealth 208
Guerrilla Warfare 186
Sky Menace 115
Blitzkrieg 24
Great Combinator 15
Lucky Bastard 3
Iron Fist 1

The poll in the Feedback Polls forum had some confusing options (imo). This is just to see a straight up or down vote on which of the battle systems you preferred. It would be helpful if you explained your choice as well

Agreed.

Thirded, I wasn't sure how to put this into words, but HeyI does a good job. It really feels like the main difference in units nowadays is aesthetics, instead if the previous differences that made the tactics one would use with each unit vary widely. Is this just because all the units have the same amount of HP now? Would tweaking the HP of certain units up or down by 1 be enough to restore uniqueness?

RPG gunner squad? Maybe based on the fire-teams of non-national militia like Hezbollah or the Chechens? The Chechens in particular have changed their basic three man squad to two RPG wielders protected by a single rifleman. They could be the offensive version of the tank defender rare unit

Think of After Roll Bonus as a critical hit. It adds on to the units attack or defense roll, and may allow you to turn a defeat into a narrow win. Currently there is a 30% chance for an ARB of 1 to occur, with less % for higher numbers.

Does anyone know what projection Afterwind uses? I seems like some Frankenstein blend of Mercator and Peters that includes the downsides from both. I know no 2d projection of a 3d object will be perfect, but the one used now could do with some improvement.

Strange that there's stuff there to upgrade any strategy, except sky menace and tank general

Cheaper air transports and increased air capacity? You're right about tank general though.

Again though, what's wrong with moving land units through Russia? It's not like the earth swallows them up as soon as they enter a darkened area of the map. I also don't understand your aversion to transports, given that the rich countries of western Europe can easily afford them.

There are three presumptions here: Turkey is in Europe and her cities and capital are a lot closer to Europe than the empty extension to the east. Finally Istanbul is not a the only choke-point into Turkey. Land armies can cross the narrow strait of water north of Izmir and west of Istanbul. Ukraine can also attack Turkey through Russia: South as well.

05.02.2011 u Who goes 'first'?
I really don't see the problem with it. The order of moves between players has to be decided somehow; imagine a triangle of three different players who all attack the unit to their left. There has to be away to resolve this which the current system does. Plus, as Ivan said, move your most critical stacks first and you'll have at least even chances of being on the attack, even more if your opponent doesn't move that unit first.

Maybe those skins could be the high sp vanity upgrades you'll talked about earlier? Having the image that represents a unit be different in the battle results menu would be pretty cool. And you can't expect highly ranked players to just sit on their excess sp can you

I chose the first option but neither satisfied as both the question and following post are based on a far more individualist reading of history that can be supported.

Citat:
The rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte

Psychological studies of "great men and women" frequently serve as a fig leaf to disguise the absence of an understanding of broad socio-historical processes. The study of history is replaced by trivial personal observations. Instead of science we have gossip. The negative traits and peculiarities of a great person are related in detail, as in the memoirs of a valet. But as Hegel remarked, the valet who recalls this trivia never made history.

A careful study of the character and background of Napoleon Bonaparte can furnish us with many useful insights into his behavior, just as similar information concerning Hitler and Stalin can cast some light upon theirs. In his biography of Stalin - a wonderfully profound work of historical materialism, Trotsky dedicates the first chapter to Stalin's childhood and upbringing - a necessary component of any biography. He carefully excludes the kind of sensational exaggerations and the conclusions that are read into a man's past on the basis of what he later became. But having sifted the source material carefully, we are left with a small amount of useful information that can help us to attain a deeper understanding of Stalin's subsequent evolution.

Men and women make their own history, but they do not make it freely, in the sense that the scope and results of their actions are strictly limited by the given socio-economic context that is prepared independently of their will. Different personalities are required by different historical periods. There are times when history demands a Lenin or a Trotsky, and others when a Stalin can come to the fore. It is the historical context that provides the individual with the necessary field of action. But there are certain circumstances when the actions of an individual, or group of individuals, can exercise a decisive influence, inclining the balance in one sense or another.

Of course, personal characteristics cannot determine the course of great historical events. But they can and do influence the specific forms taken by events. They do not create the ebb and flow of broad historical processes, but they can create the very complicated patterns, cross-currents and eddies that affect the short and medium term.
