How does the crit mechanics work? What does the value represent?
From multiple games, I know there is a critical chance (the chance there is a critical hit), and there is a critical damage (if there is a critical hit, the base damage is increased by a percentage)

How does it work?

I heard that the crit value is multiplied by 2 which is the percentage damage increased.
For example, infantry has a base crit of 5, multiplied by 2 is 10. It means that the damage is increased by 10%.

However looking at battle overviews, most of the time do less than its theoretical damage while occasionally it does more than its theoretical damage, which is also landing a crit (I assume). For example, infantry has a base defense of 6. Most of the times it does 4 damage when defending but occasionally it does 8 damage while defending.

So what is going on?

"Critical hit combines the current roll (let's say 3) with the maximum attack/defense roll (let's say 7). This produces a critical hit of 10 damage. The chance for this to occur varies depending on the unit and strategy, but normally it's around 5%."

The section about critical hits does state the critical chance, however, the critical damage is still confusing. Undefined definitions like "roll" and mixing up attack and defense points are confusing. Can we use infantry as an example again?

I assume its this. Infantry has a base crit value of 5 and has a base defense value of 6. Does this mean there is a 5% chance of it doing 11 damage when both values are added up?

I also have to add in my observations, the damage done is not always near to the theoretical one. For example, infantry theoretically has 6 defense but most of the time it only does 3 or 4 defense damage, sometimes 5 or the actually 6 damage, but on few occasions it does 1 defense damage.

Yes, because for example, with infantry in defense, the infantry will not always damage the maximum of his defense, the minimum is always 1 for an unit, and the maximum for infantry defense without strategy is 6, so sometimes it can be 1, 2, 3, etc... so if a critical hit appear, and the damage of your infantry was 4 (for example) at this moment, then it's 4 + 6, the critical alway add the maximum damage of the unit , but the basical damage of the units are never the same ( it have equal chance to appear betwen 1 to 6 for defense with infantry )

Did you also mention lucky bastard was a bit different in terms of critical chance?

Yes, it's the same mechanic but the percentage is higher, for an infantry without upgrades the critical hit is 5 ( so, 5%, for what i understood) and with lucky bastard with all upgrades (for crit) the critical hit of an infantry is 17, so 17%.

So with lucky bastard, there is a 17% chance of having a current roll of (1 to 6) + 6 = 7 to 12 damage for infantry?

So crit value represents the crit chance and the crit damage mechanics is a different story.
