Personally i think it's a stupid scenario since all the advanced and relevant techlonogy owned by american government and not to specific region, and if USA stays out of it so they will have to start everything from zero.

If we are being practical - Texas owns the important resources like oil while California owns world's most succesful high-techlonogy companies. if we look forward hypothetical scenarios i think that's the way of thinking we should choose.

Guns and small rifles don't make big difference, things that matter are tanks, planes, rockets, etc.
Getting 1,000,000 of Kalashnikov rifles wouldn't be a problem for California, it would be even less of problem for Texas.

Even if one state gets territory of another state, logistics would be huge problem

It is different. California has tons of potential for oil for example, but they don't tap it.

Texas controls the Oil industry.
California controls Social life.

I would compare it to Athens and Sparta, even though a little exaggerated.

I live in Texas, and I know hundreds of hunters that have quite a steady hand, and even more people who are technological geniuses.

I know people from California, and most of them have more of a taste for art. The population of Texas would be ready to annex if the correct situation arises. Texas is like America in the 1935 as far as war mentality goes, California not so.
