So I've been very curious as to how Marines work when being transported on the regular Naval or Air Transports. Are they still stealthed? I remember fighting someone once that had a bunch of what seemed to be empty air transports around the map. I'm not sure if it was just them dropping units off and leaving or if they were holding Marines that I can't see (he used many Marines in the battle). Can other players see your Marines when they're on the transports? Or is the only way to keep them hidden placing them on Submarines? Semi-related question: If a submarine merges with some other regular sea unit, does the Submarine stay in stealth or is it revealed? (This also goes with Marines merging with stacks of ground units) I've had times where I tried to move a sub and it was too close to like a Destroyer, so the stacks merged. I'm curious if the hover-over would show the Subs there or if it would just show the non-stealth units in the list. This is of course assuming the stealth units were properly considered in stealth prior to the merge. Obviously I don't expect them to suddenly turn stealth but I'm just wondering if merging breaks stealth. I know battling does, but does merging?

Additional note... if one of your marines is unstealthed, then merging stealthed marines with the unstealthed marine will unstealth the entire stack.

Okay, thanks for the notes. Marines can fight back on the transports though, right? Because I know I've attacked seemingly empty naval transports before with like a small stack (I think it was like 2 destroyers or something since it said only 2 defense on the transport) and to my surprise, my destroyers were... well, destroyed...

I believe the only way units on a transport can defend at sea is if there are more units present than the transport capacity (if, for example, 2 transports with 10 marines each went to a given location at sea, and one empty transport left that location, leaving one transport with 20 marines). So in your case, can you remember seeing another empty transport nearby? That has to do with stack type. You can read this (pretty technical) thread for more information: http://atwar-game.com/forum/topic.php?topic_id=26571 Could have been a bug, too ...

Same as Noir Brillant, except to confirm there is a strange bug that remains allowing units to occasionally fight. Generally units on transports don't defend (though i've seen it happen randomly from time to time). Below is an extreme example of units in transports, even when overstacked - the pic is on land, but the same mechanics apply to naval transports as well:

I attacked another transport recently and it looked like the units on it were defending (or at least it showed them doing so in the battle screen). It was 2 sea transports holding 20 units. Attack was made with 6 bombers I think... I did manage to sink them but lost half the bombers which was unexpected to a pair of naval transports.
